Take Note

Modern Fuel presents, in its State of Flux Gallery, a new installation titled Take Note, curated by Don Maynard (Kingston, ON). For the exhibition, Maynard invited artists in the community who have diverse interests, practices, and methods of artistic expression to share a record of their thoughts and documentation of their creative process. The directions for each participant were simple: “Do what you would normally do with a small notebook when keeping notes for your artistic practice.” The results are wide and varied, which reinforces Maynard’s belief that artists and their creative expressions are unique, but share some commonalities in their methods and the processes of their thoughts. In practice, these notes were never meant to be seen; they are a rare opportunity to look into nascent concepts as they take shape in small sketches, phrases, and notes.Don Maynard is a Kingston-based artist whose work has garnered a wave of critical affirmation over the past several years. He has exhibited painting and sculpture across Canada and the United States since 1990.
