Image: Tania Willard, Surrounded/Surrounding, 2018Thursday 21 March 2019 @ 6:30 pmPerformances by Tania Willard and Jeneen Frei NjootliDrawing on relational practices, kinship and land-based aesthetics, Tania Willard’s installation Surrounded/Surrounding literally brings people together for the quintessential jam around the fire. Please join us on the evening of Spring Solstice for special performances by Tania Willard and Jeneen Frei Njootli. The artists’s performances will be made in response to Surrounded/Surrounding: a custom-made fire ring with etched cedar logs from Willard’s home Secwépemc Territory and a score centred on Indigenous land politics and community-based gestures of giving back.Performances will begin in the Contemporary Feature Gallery at 6:30pm. Participants are invited to become performers alongside the artists in a procession from Agnes to Four Directions Aboriginal Student Centre. In this collaborative action, we will be carrying the fire ring and cedar logs to their new home at Four Directions, located at 146 Barrie Street. The evening will end with hot chocolate and snacks around the fire! This is a free and open event, all are welcome.Link to event webpage: https://agnes.queensu.ca/event/details/surroundedsurrounding/
