Children ages 6–12 will explore our exhibitions as inspiration for learning techniques in drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking and mixed-media art.Friday 1 February 2019Colorful Rhythms and Dynamic DesignsInspired by the exhibition, Soundings: An Exhibition in Five Parts, campers will learn the power of movement and repetition while employing 2-D art techniques to create rhythmic and spontaneous designs. Using a variety of materials, students will each also create a mini mandala built around a print of their hands—a symbol of the power and creative potential all humans share, with artist and educator Natasha Jabre.Friday 5 April 2019Making Ancient HistoryInspired by the exhibition, Rome, Capital of Painting, campers will explore the allure of antique Roman vases, drawing their own with a surprising twist. As new discoveries in history bring colorful new ideas to light, students will use “resist” and “block-out” methods to draw, paint, and chip away at the surface of their creations to reveal beautiful colors and patterns beneath, with artist and educator Natasha Jabre.INSTRUCTOR BIOGRAPHYNatasha Jabre is a representational painter whose work highlights the strangeness of everyday situations using symbolism and surreal lighting. She received her BFA from Concordia University in Montreal, Canada and her MFA from The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in North Dartmouth, Massachusetts. Her artwork has recently been exhibited in Canada and the United States, as well as internationally in Berlin, Italy, Lebanon, and Spain.
