Join us at the Agnes Etherington Art Centre for a free double-screening of Portrait of the Artist as an Old Lady and Pegi Nicol: Something Dancing About Her. These art documentaries will deepen visitors’ appreciation of two artists represented in the exhibition A Vital Force: The Canadian Group of Painters. Portrait of the Artist as an Old Lady explores the life of Russian-born Paraskeva Clark, who urged her contemporaries to reach beyond landscape for socially-engaged subjects. In Pegi Nicol: Something Dancing About Her, personal letters, first-hand accounts and archival footage re-create the life of a rebellious artist who struggled to carve out her career in the tumultuous 1930s and 1940s.The films will be introduced by Alicia Boutilier, Curator of Canadian Historical Art.
