
Agnes Etherington Art CentreThursday 12 November 20157-8:30 pm Portraiture is an enduringly vital art form, as is demonstrated in the installation The First Five: Portraits from the Kingston Prize. One Toronto collector, Janusz Dukszta, has supported the genre by commissioning over 90 portraits of himself from local contemporary artists. Patron Saint examines his early years in Poland, his work as a psychiatrist and politician in Canada, and his passion as an artistic patron. Artists such as Andy Fabo, Rae Johnson, Phil Richards and Michael Merrill discuss their relationship with Dukszta, while curators such as Gordon Hatt comment on the collector’s unique role in the Toronto art world.Director Michael Kainer will introduce the film and take questions afterwards. Kainer is a documentary writer, producer and director who lives in Toronto.
